Class Saint - St. Patrick
Feast Day - 17th March
Our class feel that St. Patrick inspires us because he was able to fight against slavery, have a deep faith and always do the right thing. We can learn to be kind and loving towards one another. The Prayer Pilgrims think that St Patrick was a very brave and courageous Saint who can inspire us.
Year 3 say, “St. Patrick pray for us”.
The transition between KS1 and KS2 can feel a little daunting, but we aim to make this transition as smooth as possible with a positive, nurturing and fun environment. This year we explore new subjects and have new routines but these are shared and experienced as a team. By working together this allows us to experience new discoveries and the development of a resilient growth mindset.
In Year Three we continue with our times tables tests and introduce French lessons. What an exciting year to look forward to! Children (via the parish) will also have the opportunity to celebrate their First Holy Communion (please speak to Fr Neil after Mass for more details).
Our PE days are Monday and Wednesday. Please ensure that your child has a fully labelled PE kit in school. Hair should be tied back for PE and children wearing jewellery are advised that this should be removed before they come to school or if your child is able to remove them independently, before a PE session. We will take part in Forest school on a Friday (Term 3).
Homework is set on Friday and should be completed by the following Wednesday.
Any communication for non-urgent information is on the ClassDojo platform. Please may important or urgent messages be sent via the school office e.g. absences from school.
To support your child at home please continue to use the TTRS (Time Tables Rock Stars website) and ensure your child is heard reading daily and the home reading record book signed. We love books and reading and also welcome you to keep using our well stocked school library.

Children learn to recognise the place value of three‑digit numbers, count in multiples, and read, write, compare, and order numbers up to 1,000. They develop mental and written methods for addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, including recalling 3×, 4×, and 8× tables. Pupils also explore fractions such as tenths and equivalent fractions, work with measures including time and perimeter, and learn to interpret data using bar charts and pictograms. Geometry skills include identifying angles and recognising 2‑D and 3‑D shapes.

English Curriculum
In Year 3, the English National Curriculum is brought to life through a rich and engaging selection of high‑quality texts. Children develop their reading, writing and spoken‑language skills using books such as The Iron Man, Oliver and the Seawigs, Ug: Boy Genius of the Stone Age and The Pebble in My Pocket. These varied texts provide exciting opportunities to explore character, setting and plot, while also introducing pupils to a wide range of vocabulary and language structures. Through guided reading, shared writing and drama activities, children build confidence in comprehension, inference and creativity. The stories also link meaningfully with cross‑curricular themes, including science, history and geography, helping pupils deepen their understanding of the wider world. By using carefully chosen texts, Year 3 ensures that all children are supported and challenged as they develop the key skills needed to become enthusiastic, independent and reflective readers and writers.
